Regional Consultative Caucus with Policymakers: Progress on Domestication of Sexual Violence Response Guidelines for Adolescents and Young People (AYP) in SADC Region

Staying adaptable and defending gender justice is central to human and social development. SAfAIDS continued its series of convenings with cohort of policy-makers from 16 #SADC Member States’ Ministries of Gender/Women Affairs, Health, Education and Justice, and representatives from Offices of Deputy Prime Ministers under TLivesSHARP Programme (generously supported by Sida) to take stock of progress made towards domestication of the Regional Sexual Violence Response Guidelines for Adolescents & Young People in the SADC region, against the Domestication Plans developed by Member States’ representatives, and the Domestication Progress Barometer. During the Regional Caucus, the cohort of policy-‘maker champions also shared good practices and insightful lessons, and co-created solutions to challenges in accelerating domestication processes and amplifying the ZeroSGBV4Africa Campaign. States demonstrated bold commitments and progress in domestication of key thematic aspects of Guidelines, and instituting gender-responsive budgeting. They also proposed collective actions to address emerging structural barriers e.g., technology facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV), and countering rising opposition to diversity, equality and inclusion.
