📣 New publication launch: Good and Promising Practices Booklet

📣 New publication launch, as we continue celebrating #PrideMonth and #Dignity4All

📚The “HIV & SRHR Responses for Diverse Prison and
Ex-Prison Populations in the SADC Region:
Good and Promising Practices Booklet” is out https://drive.google.com/file/d/1V0w4euw4-n91JVqBLc6yX5q1gbNA-uma/view?usp=sharing It reinforces need to sustain the pro-rights & pro-DEI agendas at this crucial time, where safeguarding & belonging for marginalized populations must be amplified!

🔑 Unlocking indigenous solutions to #HIV & #SRHR response bottlenecks, facing inadequately served populations (ISPs) has been a core foci of SAfAIDS partnership in the Regional YouthPoPs Programme, led by Southern Africa Network of Prisons (SANOP) and Voluntary Service Overseas, and generously support by Robert Carr Fund. This Booklet shares examples of good & promising practices from Kingdom of Eswatini 🇸🇿, Malawi 🇲🇼, Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 and the SADC regional context, to motivate scale-up, replication and investment in “what works” for gender-norms transformation (GNT), ending GBV, and equitable access to HIV & SRHR information and services by prisoners, ex-prisoners and their intersect with LGBTQIA+, sex workers, PWUID, PLHIV and persons with disabilities; in close collaboration with prison & correctional services’ authorities

“We (correctional) officers have also benefitted from the project because we are often unaware of the influence of our primary socialisation. We are also trying to practice what we learnt. Even officers, if they don’t have a safety valve for big emotions, may commit violence… The project influenced officers to think more carefully about GBV and how it affects communities and families. We understand that we are not immune to these issues, which are influenced by social norms.” – Officer from His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS), Kingdom of Eswatini

“At the beginning I wasn’t listening to anyone. After this project came to this prison it has assisted me a lot, because I learnt how to make good decisions to improve my life and how I can prevent HIV. I am happy for the coming of this project in this prison. Do not stop
here, many youth need these sessions so that they can be transformed as we have been.” – Edwin, an ex-prisoner member of a SAfAIDS-supported Men as Partners (MasP) Club, that advances GNT, Malawi
