Knowledge for Action: The power to make a differnce

SAfAIDS is a regional NGO established in 1994; and promotes effective and ethical development responses to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and HIV, and advances gender equality, inclusion and human rights, through critical linkages with other development areas of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); across the SADC region, with a Regional Office, Country Offices and Country Focal Points across several countries in the SADC region.

SAfAIDS is registered as a national Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) in South Africa since 2008. SAfAIDS South Africa Country Office is seeking two (2) new Board members to join its dynamic Country Board. One of the new Board members would be required to have specific expertise in financial oversight. The appointments of the 2 new Board members will be from 1st March 2022, on an initial Term of Office of three years. The South Africa Country Board is a voluntary and proactive governance body; that meets on a quarterly basis to advance oversight actions on operations of SAfAIDS South Africa Country Office. The Country Board comprises experienced professionals from South Africa, and reflects a rich diversity of technical, business growth, legal and development practitioner expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to advancing SAfAIDS Strategy; including its vision, mission and values
  • Oversee the alignment of Country Office practice with organisational Policy and Procedures
  • Provide technical input, advice and guidance on programmatic, financial, research and strategic evidence generation, and resource mobilisation of the Country Office
  • Contribute towards sustainability and risk mitigation strategies for the Country Office
  • Ensure compliance and adherence with legal and statutory requirements
  • Exercise due accountability and be responsible to relevant stakeholders


  • Uphold principles of integrity and high ethical standards; including recognition of diversity, justice and equality
  • Experience in other governance structures, positions of leadership or related statures, within South Africa or the SADC region
  • Strategic thinking and designing skills, with business acumen as an advantage
  • Special skills in the areas of financial management for 1 Board Member is required and 1 board member representing key populations with technical skills and experience in SRHR, HIV, GBV prevention and gender justice, as well as ICTs for development
  • Availability, dedication and commitment to the objectives and work of SAfAIDS
