Prevention+ is a five-year, multi-country programme led by a consortium of Rutgers, Sonke Gender Justice and Promundo,
and funded by the Dutch government. The programme focuses on addressing the root causes of gender-based violence (GBV),
namely the social, economic, religious and cultural contexts that shape attitudes and behaviour that lead to violence. One of
the countries in which this programme is being implemented, is Indonesia.
Indonesia is the country with the biggest Muslim population in the world and Muslim religious leaders play an important role
in all aspects of Indonesian life. While Prevention+ Indonesia partners with a number of local women’s and GBV organisations,
its partnership with one specific organisation is particularly crucial to their response to the religious reality in Indonesia. This
organisation, Rahima, focuses on religion and religious actors when addressing gender issues. Rahima is the technical partner
for Prevention+ Indonesia, providing support to all Prevention+ Indonesia partners on how to engage with and integrate Islam
into programming.
