Leadership Call for Action to Attain 90%x90%x90% in Marondera and Seke Districts by 2020
Today the 13th of July 2016, traditional and religious leaders in Marondera and Seke districts reaffirmed their commitment to reach the HIV fast track targets following a 2 day Community Capacity Building Indaba that was hosted by SAfAIDS in partnership with Seke Rural Home Based Care with technical and financial support from UNAIDS RST. A total of 30 community leaders including 2 local chiefs were capacitated on how to mobilize communities for increased uptake of HIV testing services in their 15 selected communities. This capacity strengthening initiative sought to enhance leadership knowledge, skills and competencies on HTS, ART, Gender Based Violence, Child Marriage, Intergenerational relationships and teen pregnancies.
The trained leaders graduated as fully-fledged Fast Track Champions of Change who will in turn host the “Village to Village, I Know my HIV Status. Do You? 90 X90X90 Campaign that seeks to promote and encourage community members to access HTS and other related services in order to reach the first 90%. These Village-to-Village Community Demand Creation Activities will range from bashes, community dialogues, family wellness and sports days. At the end of the training, the leaders committed themselves to spearheading the HIV response in order to attain the 90% x 90% x 90% by 2020 in line with the UNAIDS global fast track targets.
