2009 Noticias Sida 2 vol 15: A importancia de Ligar os Direitos de Saude Sexual e Reprodutiva e HIV

Odebate sobre a ligação dos direitos de saúde sexual e reprodutiva e HIV foi iniciado nos princípios de 1994, na Conferência Internacional sobre População e Desenvolvimento, estabeleceu que a prevenção e o tratamento eficazes de doenças de transmissão sexual, incluindo HIV, foram uma componente integral dos serviços de saúde reprodutiva. Este artigo avalia a importância da criação de ligações entre os serviços de saúde sexual e reprodutiva e HIV e o impacto que a mesma poderia ter sobre a provisão de serviços. Finalmente, este artigo irá comentar sobre os benefícios desta ligação para as mulheres e grupos minoritários, e porque é que estas são um passo essencial na prevenção de HIV.

2009 Noticias Sida 3 vol 15: Um amor … Um parceiro 

Em 2006, quando a Comunidade de Desenvolvimento para a África Austral (SADC) identificou a concorrência de parceiros múltiplos (MCP) como um vector do HIV na África Austral, introduziu um tópico que tem vindo a ser raramente discutido. A questão de se ter parceiros múltiplos ao mesmo tempo, num ambiente de fraco uso do preservativo e a circuncisão masculina bastante reduzida, foi o que veio a tona mas nunca foi discutido. Embora os sinais fossem evidentes, a questão permaneceu em segredo e tacita aceitação pela sociedade.

In this issue, we look at the importance of communication - and dialogues within communities that aim to break the culture of silence around HIV and GBV - to achieve change and alleviate traditional cutural practices that iipact negatively on the well-being of women and children. High levels of rape and domestic abuse are a factor in the region's HIV epidemic; women who have been physically and sexually assaulted by thier partners, as well as those who are in relationships with men who have a greater deal of control over them, are at higher risk of HIV infection.

Within the pages of The Umbrella – Safe from GBV and HIV Newsletter, the first issue under the SAfAIDS Changing the River's Flow series programme - we seek to build bridges of hope and renewed energy towards responding to genderbased violence, HIV and the promotion of women’s rights within the context of culture across southern Africa. We anticipate that this Newsletter shall foster ncreased and widened dialogue for change between all stakeholders around these challenging topics and irealities.
