Sexual violence against girls widespread in Swaziland

13 May 2009 (aidsmap) - A third of girls in Swaziland have experienced sexual violence by the age of 18, according to a study published in the May 9th edition of The Lancet. Such violence was strongly associated with sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy complications or miscarriages, unwanted pregnancy and mental health problems.

Harare, 2 April 2009 (allAfrica) - Lynde Francis has died. She was the founder and director of The Centre in Zimbabwe, an organization run by and for people living with HIV. Francis herself lived with HIV for decades, but she died from related complications in Harare on Tuesday. She was one of the first people in Zimbabwe to go public about her HIV status in 1986.
